What do you wish you could tell the public about your war experience?
Do you want to share your story, but you don't know where to start?
Do you want to make a contribution to art that will help inspire others?
Dr. Wilma Siegel is looking for veterans who served in Afghanistan or Iraq to participate in an educational art project. She is interested in learning how you feel the war has affected you and your loved ones, as well as the nation. All volunteers will have their portraits painted and will be given the opportunity to share their story for public display. Everyone who participates will receive a copy of the picture and narrative to keep.
Dr. Siegel is a retired physician who began creating portraits as a way of educating and inspiring empathy for people who have lived through profound and difficult experiences. She has created portraits of Holocaust survivors and liberators, breast cancer and AIDS survivors, among others, that have hung in museums and galleries along with pieces of their stories. Past volunteers have said they found it healing to share their experiences.
