Stress Management/Gentle Beginners Yoga Workshop

For Active Duty and Veteran Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom Military or Loved Ones

With Beryl Bender Birch
Wednesday, May 5th
4:00 pm - 6:15 pm

Learn to relax and energize with yoga! You've heard so much about yoga - you know it's supposed to be great for you - it can help you manage stress and anxiety, develop strength, flexibility, and body awareness, and clear your mind while improving concentration and focus. But where do you begin?

Well, here is an excellent chance to learn about this transformational system from one of the foremost yoga teachers in the country! Yoga begins with the breath and Beryl will teach us how to safely practice several yogic breathing techniques that will help to relax the nervous system and quiet the mind. Then we will move on to combining the breath with movement, as we learn many of the fundamental yoga postures (asanas) and focus on proper alignment. Whether you are fit and tight, out of shape and stiff, or dealing with injury, as the former Wellness Director of the New York Road Runners Club for 22 years, Beryl is uniquely qualified to make this amazing practice accessible and beneficial to all.

FREE for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF) active duty military, OIF/OEF veterans, and their loved ones.

The program is directed by Beryl Bender Birch, author of Power Yoga, Beyond Power Yoga, and the recently published Boomer Yoga, director-founder of The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and co-founder of The Give Back Yoga Foundation, and by JoAnn Difede, Ph.D., Director of the Program for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Studies (PATSS) at Weill Cornell Medical College. PATSS offers free, confidential services for OIF/OEF service members and their families. Please visit us online at for more information.

Registration required -- we expect this event will fill up quickly. To register and for more details, contact Brittany at or call 212-821-0783.

The workshop will be held at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, 525 East 68th Street, Baker Pavilion, Room 1190, NY, NY 10065.
